About the Logbook PDF Print E-mail
Written by Raj Burgul
The Computerised Radiology Trainee Logbook is a self-contained software solution for keeping a log of the huge number of procedures and examinations performed by Radiologists in training in the UK. We designed the software while we were trainees in Aberdeen with the help of the other trainees and trainers. The database stores data in an simple and ordered manner allowing easy retrieval of data for RITA assessments etc. As well as a powerful search facility the logbook allows generation of reports for end of block assessments listing out procedures and examinations carried out by a trainee. The Logbook is available in both PC and Macintosh formats and does not require the purchase of any specific software.

Logbook features:

  • Menu driven data entry
  • Built in Help Screens
  • Flexible built in search page
  • Quick browse feature
  • Import/Export to any other database or Excel
  • Directimport from Radiology Information System
  • Report Generator for Appraisal/RITA

The Logbook consists of 2 files: The largest of the 2 files is the actual runtime application which takes up about 75Mb. This runs the Logbook database but will not run any other databases. It will only run datafiles that it recognises and that also have the .USR extension after their name (Windoze). The second file is the logbook data file itself. Multiple copies (for different trainees) of this file can exist side by side on the same computer. We advise each trainee to rename their own file (with the .USR extension after the name) e.g. George.USR.

Installation Decompress the Zipped files. After decompression you must keep all the logbook files in the same folder/directory on your hard drive. Open the Logbook proper and select 'guest'. You will then be prompted to create a login with your name, NTN and password. The parts of the Logbook are fairly self explanatory but help is included within the database itself in the form of an annotated help page accessed through a query icon. Further information is available on the Frequently asked questions (FAQ) page. Please email us if you have any further questions.
